Grant Funding For Rain Water Harvesting Tanks
The Farming and Forestry Improvement Scheme (FFIS) is part of the Rural Development Programme For England, designed to support farming and forestry businesses in becoming more efficient at using resources.
As part of this funding, they are supportive of rainwater harvesting, recycling and the reuse of water. £20 million is available until December 2013, and dependent upon your farms classification, they will fund up to 50% of capital outlay for equipment such as water storage tanks and so on.
If we can help you price equipment for water storage and reuse then please contact us. We have a selection of tanks available from new plastic storage tanks to stainless barrels suitable for underground storage.
Visit http://www.defra.gov.uk/publications/files/pb13678a-ffis-leaflet.pdf for more information about the scheme.

ISO Tanks
A customer has recently installed two 25,000 litre ISO tanks for the storage of water on site. With the cost of vertical storage tanks at well over twice the price to these tanks, they have proved to be a wise investment. With the outlets and breather pipes modified it means tanks can be filled from ground level removing the need for personnel to work at height.

More Tankers Added To The Fleet
In recent months we have added a number of tankers to our rental fleet. We are consistently aiming to modernise and improve our fleet with quality equipment that will allow our customers to manage their transport operations effeciently.
We are a family owned and operated business with all equipment purchased outright, meaning we can pass this cost saving, (with not having to pay finance repayments and interest charges) onto our customers in the form of highly competitive rental rates.
The two pictures above show a 30,000 litre GP following refurbishment leaving the yard for rental to carry waste milk and cream, the other a 35,000 litre GP which is now carrying waste oils nationwide.

Funding Available For Yorkshire Farmers
Farmers in the Yorkshire area are to act quickly if they wish to be eligible for grants to purchase rainwater harvesting tanks, heat exchangers, slurry separators and heat capture units. The Rural Development Programme for England is aiming to reduce farm energy use and offering these grants. The application deadline closes on March 7, this year so act quickly! Visit http://www.co2sense.org.uk/frep for more information.
We obviously can't help you with heat exchangers, but rain water harvesting and recycling we can! If you need a quote for setting up such a system or some advice please give us a call. Grant aid ranges from £1500 to £25,000 for up to 50% of the equipment cost.
Over the last few years, we have dealt with many farmers from all over the country who have had access to grants, so even if your not in Yorkshire, it may be worth researching into.

"Britain Faces One Of The Coldest Winters For 100 Years"
With a prolonged cold spell over the months of December and January, Starkey Tankers provided several tankers to Heathrow airport to keep the runways open and planes defrosted. These tankers were used to; collect anti-freeze from various manufacturing plants nationwide; deliver the bulk liquid to the airport terminals and then allow for the safe onsite storage of antifreeze in bulk.

Bulk Water Storage Reduces Costs For Cheshire Farmer
With the ever increasing cost of mains water, dairy farmers are looking for alternative ways to use rainwater in an attempt to reduce costs. A customer has recently purchased two 25,000 litre tankers for the collection of rainwater from building roofs. These two tanks utilise a simple guttering setup directly off a building filling the tanks in periods of rainfall. The tanks are then plumbed into the dairy water supply to feed the dairy for washing down the palour and various other jobs.
The need for water cost saving was further brought to light in May 21st edition of the Farmers Guardian where Aberystwyths University IBERS teaching and research institue utilised a similar system and has predicted a £22,000 saving per year compared to drawing water from the mains supply. This saving will in the first year alone cover the cost of setting up the system.

Water Delivery For The BBC Film Set & Subara TV Commercial
Scott from SFX emailled us describing how we have helped over the last year:
My job as a Special Effects Supervisor means I spend most of my time making the impossible possible ! During Summer 2009 we were asked to provide rain in several places places for the BBC mini-series 'Paradox' - this presented the usual challenge of sourcing water and utilising it in a convenient location for filming. One call to Starkey Tankers solved my problem. Soon 30,000 litres of clean, fresh water were being driven to the set. Within minutes of arriving I had a plentiful supply for my rain rig.
A similar scenario was needed in the middle of Snowdonia for a 'Subaru' commercial and I didn't have much head scratching to do before I picked up the phone and called David - short notice but he provided the usual, hassle free service and the job went smoothly. Round the clock, same day, unusual requests...the Starkey's have taken it all in their stride and become a valued part of my problem solving resources.

Manchester Airport called on Starkey Tankers to service them in their hour of need. After receiving a phone call at 10pm over the Christmas break requesting tankers for the transport and on site storage of anti-freeze, we successfully opened the yard at 2.30am ( in 6" of snow"!) and made available tankers for emergency use.
We were later told that without our quick response a major part of the airport would be shut down due to poor weather conditions. We are open 24 hours, 7 days a week to ensure faultless customer service. Call Will Starkey on 07734 964212 for out of office hours tanker requirements.
